Celebrating National Volunteer Month: The Power of Community Service with Dallas Founder Lions Club
How volunteerism connects us, strengthens communities, and reflects the heart of Lions service in Dallas
Each April, communities across the country come together to celebrate National Volunteer Month—a time to recognize the everyday heroes who give their time and energy to help others. First established as National Volunteer Week in 1974, this observance has grown into a month-long celebration of the countless ways volunteers strengthen our communities.
According to AmeriCorps, more than 60 million Americans volunteer each year, contributing over 4 billion hours of service. Whether through mentoring students, serving meals, planting trees, or offering vital health services, volunteerism is one of the most powerful ways individuals can create change—and build community in the process.
Here in Dallas, we’ve seen firsthand how acts of service bring people together. Volunteers play a key role in addressing everything from health disparities and food insecurity to educational access and neighborhood revitalization. These moments of action add up to lasting impact.
At the Dallas Founder Lions Club, service is more than a monthly event—it’s the heart of who we are. Since 1916, our club has been rooted in Downtown Dallas, and today we proudly stand as part of Lions Clubs International, a global network of more than 1.4 million members committed to serving their communities. Our motto is simple and powerful: "We Serve."
In the past year, our members have rolled up their sleeves and gotten to work on projects that reflect the spirit of National Volunteer Month. We helped organize and participate in the Reverchon Park Roundup, where Lions and community members came together to clean and restore one of Dallas’s most beloved parks.
